January is National Train Your Dog Month.
Many of us love and own dogs. Dogs are perhaps Americaâs favorite pet. They serve as defenders, family members, friends, helpers and maybe even psychiatrists (though we might not admit it). Dogs offer us something increasingly rare in this world . . . unconditional love and loyalty. As yet another tribute to our canine companions here is a second collection of quotes from various dog lovers:
Iâd rather have an inch of a dog than miles of pedigree.â"writer Dana Burnet
The dog represents all that is best in man. â" French army officer Etienne Charlet
I would rather see the portrait of a dog that I know, than all the allegorical paintings they can show me in the world.â"writer Samuel Johnson
To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boringâ"it was peace. â" writer Milan Kundera
No one appreciates the very special genius of your conversation as the dog does. â" journalist and poet Christopher Morley
Happiness to a dog is what lies on the other side of a door. â" author and journalist Charleton Ogburn Jr.
No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich. â" author Louis Sabin
Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it wonât buy the wag of his tail. â" humorist Henry Wheeler Shaw
There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. â" author Ben Williams
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. â" Unknown
Doesnât that last quote truly say it all?
