SEATTLE (AP) â" A King County District Court judge has ordered a 53-year-old man held on $2 million bail in the slaying of the 72-year-old aunt with whom he lived in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue.
Mark Irwin was arrested for investigation of second-degree murder in the death of Barbara Irwin. Her body was found Sunday night in her apartment.
Mark Irwin, 53, was ordered held pending charges for investigation of second-degree murder and bail was set at $2 million.
According to the document of probable cause that outlines the police case, relatives said Irwin, who had been living with his aunt, Barbara Irwin, for the past six months, had a history of drug abuse and stealing from the family.
A relative who spoke to Irwin after calling the victimâs cellphone told police Irwin had slurred speech and sounded like he was âusing drugs again,â court documents say.
According to Bellevue police, Barbara Irwinâs body was discovered by a family member who became worried after she hadnât heard from the woman.
The relative went to the victimâs residence in the Twelve Central Square Apartments in downtown Bellevue, used a ladder to climb into the womanâs unit, found her body and called 911, said police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate.
The newspaper says court records show Irwin has a criminal history that includes convictions for robbery, theft and taking motor vehicles.
Bellevue police say the womanâs body was discovered by a family member who grew concerned about her welfare.
Irwin was arrested Monday during a traffic stop.
