After a bundle of photos were leaked from the set, Star Wars behind-the-scenes personnel have delivered exciting news to the world: that Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyongâo and Game of Thrones heroine Gwendoline Christie have both joined the star studded cast of Episode VII.
When the initial cast for the new flick was announced, only one woman donned the roster, prompting outrage and fury among many. The newest additions add not one but two high profile actresses.
Given the experience Gwendoline Christie carries from her Game of Thrones character, she will fit in seamlessly when it comes time to her handling a light saber. Her statuesque figure stands at 6â3â making her a force to be reckoned with. Lupita can do no wrong and her casting is evidence that sometimes directors do listen to their viewersâ wishes. On top of that, she is an amazing actress. Star Wars fans worldwide are certainly rejoicing today given the news.
Nyongâo and Christie will join a cast that already includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and Andy Derkis. Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original trilogy, will also return to reprise her role in the new series.
Production is already underway on the flick, which is directed by J.J. Abrams. It is scheduled for a December 18, 2015 release date and will have three films released each year after based on characters in the franchise.
While rumors are circling around the web that Nyongâo could somehow be related to Lando from the original series, his return has not been confirmed. The roles the two ladies will be playing is being kept under wraps, though a possibility of a leak isnât out of the question.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that the casting was âvery excitingâ and adds to the âextraordinarily talented ensembleâ that has been put together for the film.
