EA and ‘Star Wars’: What Games Can We Expect Will Come Out of the 10 Year Deal

Electronic Arts recently scored a 10 year deal with exclusive rights to produce video games for the “Star Wars” franchise after LucasArts was shut down earlier this year.

Fans already have reasons to get excited as it was announced at E3 this year that EA would be working on long awaited title,”Battlefront 3″.

At one time the original “Star Wars Battlefront” was the highest selling “Star Wars” game of all time.

However, there has been concern that the main focus for EA moving forward would be games centered around movie tie-ins, with the upcoming “Star Wars Episode VII,” and the forthcoming squeals over the next few years.

But according to recent reports this may not be the case .

“We’ve done movie games over the years and we wanted to make sure that we weren’t doing a movie gameâ€"a game based on the movie…The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is that it’s so broad and so deep, you don’t have to do a movie gameâ€"you can do a game that’s very focused on the world that’s been created around ‘Star Wars,” said  Blake Jorgensen, EA’s Chief Financial Officer at the UBS conference.

There are no other specific titles announced for the EA lineup of “Star Wars” games being worked on, but Jorgensen had assuring words for fans of the franchise.

“We struck what we believe is a fantastic deal which allows us to be able to build games in many different genres across multiple types of platforms over 10 years.”
