New York Deli Tries To Rip Off Spanish Speaking $1,000,000 Lotto Winner

A Father and Son team who worked at a New York Deli were less than honorable this Thursday as they tried to rip off someone who they believed wasn’t smart enough to know the difference. A spanish-speaking man had purchased a $10 scratch-off lottery ticket, and believed that he had one the jackpot. After scanning the ticket behind the counter, the clerk told the customer that he had only won $1,000. The man was paid $1,000 in cash on the spot, and he left the store with his suspicions. He later returned to confront the Deli clerk, and claim what he believed he won.

The 26 year old Deli Clerk, Karim Jaghab was adamant that the spanish-speaking man had only won $1,000 when he was later confronted again about the ticket. Though he knew full well that they ticket was the $1,000,000 winner since the lottery machine told him that when he scanned it. He had apparently involved his 57 year old father, Nabil Jaghab the deli owner, in on this scam as well. When the lotto winner returned to confront Karim about the fraudulent error, Nabil offered the man $10,000 to walk away from it an never look back.

Seeing that the deli was cheating the man out of a 7-figure pay day, the man wised up and called police. Police were quick to hone in on the scheme to defraud the language deficient winner. In New York State, the lottery cannot pay out more than $600 in prizes to a winner without them filling out a claim ticket and taking it to the lottery office. This was exactly what the two Deli crooks were planning on doing themselves. The police made arrests at the scene for both Karim and Nabil Jaghab, and they now face charges for what they tried to do to the poor man.
