Clover, SC â" A South Carolina school teacher provided a precious lesson in honor and integrity after she discovered a large amount of cash totaling over $11,000 and turned the riches over to police.
Sherry Whitesides teaches fourth grade at Cotton Belt Elementary School in York. On Sunday, as she was driving with her 12-year-old son, a bank bag full of money flew out of the SUV directly in front of them and landed on the side of the road. When Whitesides pulled over, she and her son Alan were amazed to see what was in front of their eyes, as they quickly began gathering wads of hundred dollar bills â" 114 of them to be exact.

First things first, the pair decided to snap a quick selfie displaying their incredible find. The image shows them beaming from ear to ear as they hold handfuls of hundred dollar bills. After which, the 42-year old mother and her son made their way to the Clover Police Department, where they turned over the money.
âWe get out of the car and I looked down and saw all these $100 bills. But they were pink and blue, like the brand new ones, and my first thought was, this isnât real,â Whitesides told ABC.
The good Samaritan never once thought of keeping the riches and said her only intention was to return the money to the rightful owner.
âIt was just the right thing to do. God put me in that situation for a reason,â the noble mom said.
Since the ownerâs drivers license and bank receipt was located in the money bag, tracking him down was easy. However, by the time mom and son reached the bank, it had already closed for the day.
Whitesides said she had qualms about keeping the money overnight, as her conscience just wouldnât allow it. She promptly decided to make her way to the police department and relinquish the money.
Authorities were able to contact the elderly gentleman who lost the money. It is uncertain as to how the unidentified man lost his stash of funds, but it appears the bag was whisked away from the top portion of his vehicle.
While the educator did not receive any compensation for her admirable deed, she was able to give her school children and son a valuable lesson in doing the right thing, and that is something you cannot put a dollar amount on.
