The story, published by Free Patriot, states that the president of the United States resigned from his post immediately. The article claims that President Barack Obama spoke with Congress and made an official resignation from office as he said:

“I am through with this second term…So I leave you today to start my new life. Thank you, and God bless America.”

The article goes on to quote the president, listing four reasons why he is resigning. The Obama resignation from presidency April fools hoax states that the president is resigning due to his Indonesian heritage, his birth certificate, his sexuality and finally his exhaustion of killing people.

For those who fell for the April fools prank, they were either relieved or dismayed when the scrolled down to the very bottom of the article where it reads:

“APRIL FOOLS! Had ya going there for a minute, didn’t we? I mean obviously this article is fulled with truth….”

The story, written by Matt Liponoga, instantly went viral and has over 32,000 shares on Facebook. The article also spread quickly throughout other social media sites like Twitter and Google+.

Many of the comments that followed the article were readers who were dismayed that Obama’s resignation was not factual:
